艺术s programs develop intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills through an active hands-on curriculum. While imparting foundational expressive skills, the program encourages students to expand their conceptual and perceptual capabilities and make connections between their personal experience and art, 科学, 社会科学, 还有环境. 

A student with a major in another program may minor in 艺术 with the permission of the Academic Director. This minor provides an in-depth introduction to studio art in both traditional and contemporary practice. Eighteen (18) credit hours as listed are required.

Through directed and experiential learning, courses in the creative arts introduce understanding of methods, 材料, 流程, 以及它们的应用. 学生 learn to think concretely and intuitively through hands-on experiences. Instructors provide historical and contemporary models to convey these concepts. Learning through the arts allows students to acquire a variety of separate but interrelated concepts and skills to demonstrate knowledge of the creative process, 工艺, 还有个人的声音.

学生 successfully completing an arts class or minor will:

• Be able to determine and demonstrate concrete methods and 流程 for research and creation, 或性能, 在艺术领域. 相应的, they will be able to demonstrate skill in graphic and/or symbolic communication.
• Be able to assemble or perform work that demonstrates standards of 工艺 in the discipline. 相应的, 他们将学习写作方法, discussion and critique of creative works of art or music.
• Develop skills that expand their expressive capabilities, with the goal of developing a distinct personal voice that emphasizes their interests and experiences.

Courses completed at another accredited college can be transferred to this degree program. Transferred courses must be reasonably close in scope and content to the required courses offered at UNE in order to count as exact equivalents. Otherwise, they may transfer as general electives.

All courses completed must be no older than five (5) years.
